The Modern Divide doesn't feel like a Revolution Void song to me. It's a little more New Age-y and a little less acid jazzy than his usual fare. It's an interesting track that fits interestingly with the rest.

A few bits of trivia about this tune:
The drum tracks are played by two excellent drummers, Michael Shrieve and Dave Hill, jr. The vocals are by two vocalists, "Gino" Srdjan Yevdjevich of the band Kultur Shock and "Ill-Esha" Zaide (www.ill-esha.com). The vocalists never met nor did they hear each others' vocal takes.
The piano solo makes extensive use of the Eb minor pentatonic scale which is most easily identified as being all black keys on the keyboard.

Wow, thanks for the information. I thought the piano solo was really interesting. I suppose the use of a pentatonic scale might be why.
Well, playing Eb minor pentatonic (aka Gb major pentatonic) has advantages over the other pentatonic scales in that you can really easily do a "run" by sweeping your hand across the black keys.
If you're into pentatonic scales then check out McCoy Tyner. He is light years ahead of me in terms of pentatonic scales -- constantly mixing and matching on the fly and playing really "out" lines that sound so right... Tyner is coming to Seattle next month with Marc Ribot, I plan on catching the show. I've already seen him live a couple times and he still rips it up on the keys!
